Data Sources connection updated

Data sources tab is one of the most important parts of the reporting platform.

Data source

Data source (platform, statistics provider, integration) is a system that provides marketing data.

These come in four types:

  • Ad channels (e.g. Facebook)

  • Analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics)

  • Google Sheets

  • Custom scripts (please email your account manager to find out more about this option)

Here you can see all the integrations available:

To open this tab click Data sources in the menu on the left of the screen, or use a direct link https://report.improvado.io/data_sources/

Each data source is represented in the data sources menu by a tile with a platform logo or name and a blue connect or pink connection settings button.

Connection settings is a specific topic, a menu where you can add new accounts, edit existing connections and update data. But - first things first - let’s talk about connecting your data source for the first time (it’s not too much of “the first” I hope :-)

Connecting a data source means that the data provided by this data source will be available for any BI tool or visualisation platform of your choice. The credentials you should enter depends on each particular datasource:

  • Some providers, such as GoogleAds and Facebook, use OAuth. If you are logged in the correct account it will happen in a blink of an eye.

  • Some others will just require a username and password, under which you have been authorized in their system.

  • Third ones ask for additional data (for example, the API-token for Criteo) or even special files (e.g. Certificate .zip-file for Apple Search). We provide connection hints for such data sources or even special documentation pages with instructions for the most difficult cases.

Remember that you are adding “account-wide” sources. Then, when creating a report, the data sources added above will be available for all reports.

Sometimes Data source connection can be tricky because of the provider’s safety settings and policies. Here you can see instruction for such providers (the list will be updated with adding new types).
